Fun Fitness Tips

Sleep It Off

Sleep is a very important component of maintaining your health. It can help avoid a variety of health issues. For example, most heart attacks happen in the early morning hours. Studies have shown that this may be due to how sleep interacts with blood vessels. Lack of sleep can cause worsening blood pressure and cholesterol. Both of these are risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Your health benefits best from 7-9 hours of sleep! This allows the body ample time to recover from the day. A good night sleep will make you feel energized and alert for the next day!

Good health has to be viewed as a HOLISTIC concept. This includes fitness of the mind, body and soul! Why waste time sweating the toxins out if you are going to neglect what goes in.

Here is one of my favorite lunch combos, after a good workout.

1oz of sockeye pink salmon (lightly seasoned)

1.5 cups of steamed brown rice

2 cups of sautéed broccoli

1 tbsp of my favorite sauce (teriyaki glaze)

Stretching Does the
Body Good

We all like to have a good sweaty work out from time to time. This, at times, forces us to forget the proper body recovery! Stretching may be just what you need. Proper stretching can help avoid injury, improve posture and increase blood flow and oxygen to the muscles. Stretching gives your body the opportunity to reach all limbs to their max potential. Doing this lead to stress relief and a calm mind. That is a recipe for success!

PLAY WITH YOUR COLORS!!!

I love a good salad but they can get boring. I love to spice it up with a fun protein and some fruit. This Mandarin Crab cake salad was sooooo delicious.

1.5 - 2 cups of mixed green or leaf of choice

1 mandarin orange

1.5 of cherry tomatoes

1. 5 cucumber

himalayan salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons of a light dressing.

*I love a honey balsamic

Strawberry Basil Lemonade

  • Fresh cut strawberries,

  • 1 cup of fresh basil leaves,

  • 2 squeezed lemons,

  • alkaline or spring water

  • Stevia in the raw to preference.

    • (I use 6 packs for my 72oz container)

  • Let chill for 1 1/2 hours and ENJOY!

Fruit Frenzy

I am a snacker and that can be a good or a bad thing! I find ways to avoid processed sugar and hit my sweet tooth all at once. There is nothing like a classic, homemade fruit salad. My fav has kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and grapes!…If i’m feeling fancy, you may find some mango and pineapple hiding!

Pineapple Rice heaven.JPG

Pineapple Heaven

Anyone up for some vaca flavors? This medley of rice, quinoa, peppers, shrimp, and sodium free teriyaki sauce will take your tastebuds to another location. Best made in a wok, use a light grapeseed oil and toss it all in over medium heat. Carve out the middle of your pineapple (save the insides for your fruit salad), and enjoy this rice mashup with its sweet bowl bottom!

Sandwich anyone.JPG

Lunchtime Love

Sandwich anyone? I miss the days of a good cold cut or PB&J. Find a great bread alternative and go to town! This sweet potato toast is just what the carb doctor ordered. Tossed with some avocado spread, eggs, tomatoes and bacon (meatless in my case), this was mouth watering! Add all of YOUR favorites and enjoy lunchtimes!
